Set above the curve of Sand Bay, South Sands Hotel is a relaxed coastal spot where good food, fresh air and an easy pace come together.
Formerly The Commodore Hotel, the hotel has long-standing roots in Kewstoke, now refreshed to offer a welcoming, informal space to eat, drink and spend time by the sea.
By the Coast
With Worlebury Woods behind and Sand Point just along the bay, the hotel is surrounded by some of North Somerset’s best walking routes and open spaces.
Whether it’s a dog walk, a cycle or simply a stroll along the beach, it’s the perfect place to get outside and make the most of the coastline.

The Bay restaurant serves a seasonal menu focused on local ingredients and classic flavours.
Rock Salt is ideal for coffee, cake, brunch and lighter bites.

Head Chef Chris Wade-Hayes
Head Chef Chris Wade-Hayes brings more than 25 years of experience to the kitchen at South Sands.
Growing up in a large family where everything was cooked from scratch, Chris developed an early appreciation for simple, honest food. The kitchen was always the heart of the home; a place where good ingredients and meals around the table brought everyone together.
Chris originally planned to study art, but a trainee position in a hotel kitchen changed everything. Drawn to the energy, teamwork and craft of professional cooking, he quickly realised he had found his calling.
Early in his career he joined one of the country’s most prestigious hotels, where the uncompromising standards of hand-made pasta, in-house baking and traditional butchery shaped his approach to food. It was here that his passion for quality ingredients, careful preparation and attention to detail took hold.
Chris has since worked with some of the UK’s most respected chefs and restaurants, including Hawksmoor, Wright Brothers and The Square, alongside names such as Michel Roux Jr, Mark Dodson, Richard Turner, Mitch Tonks, Dario Cecchini and Tom Brown.
He joined South Sands four years ago, drawn by the ambition of the kitchen and the enthusiasm of a young team passionate about cooking wonderful food. Today, Chris leads the team at The Bay Restaurant, where every dish is prepared with skill and care.
